Resolutions

My least favorite part of the holidays is the part where I have to clean up. Put away. Pack it up. Make things disappear until next year.

And, as much as my darling children think that cleaning and organizing is my hobby, it is SO NOT.

To make things worse, I have had the biggest pain in my neck for the last three days that just seems to get  progressively worse each night, thanks to the lovely 3 year old in my bed that strangles me with her feet and pushes me to the edge each night, giving me an entire three inches of our Eastern King sized bed.

So, in keeping with the new year and resolutions and all, I have decided that Janey’s days of sleeping with her parents are over. OVER. O-V-E-R.

You think I’m joking. You think I can’t do it, but you have no idea what my neck feels like right now.

In addition, my other resolution is to start cooking. Can you believe it? I know, my husband nearly fell to the kitchen floor when I made the announcement this morning. That, and the fact that Bree and Bailey started laughing their asses off was enough to make me want to prove to them ALL that I will learn how to cook. Step aside Rachel Ray. I am on a mission to not only learn how to cook, but learn how to make healthful, nutritious, delicious meals in a timely manner. There will be no more tucking the children into bed at 9:30 p.m. only to have them remind me that we haven’t eaten dinner yet.

Yes, 2006 will be a great year for eating well and resting well.

On another note, I finally caught up on my December birthday wishes here and here and here.  Sorry  I’m late, but you people with December birthdays are used to having your special day overshadowed by the holiday season, right?! Happy Birthday!

Happy Holidays!

We came home today after spending Christmas week with Jody’s family in Blaine, WA.

I always dread when we have to travel by plane with all four kids at once, but travelling by plane with all four kids at once on the busiest travel days of the year is like signing myself up for target practice. And I’M the target.

In spite of my stress (because there is nothing worse than trying to keep your children in line at someone else’s house, all while praying the three year old won’t break out into her "My Humps" song and dance, poisoning the innocent children in her presence who think the Black Eye Peas are what we’re having for lunch, and hoping that the older three kids will somehow remember the nice manners and good etiquette that we’ve been beating into their brains for the last 13 years but being sorely disappointed when I walk into the room and see them sprawled all over the furniture while the gracious adults teeter on footstools and lean against the walls because my three children have somehow managed to monopolize all 8 spots on the furniture. Then, when I drag the three of them by their ears to the garage, so I can skin their hides in private, they say things to me like "Well I asked her if she wanted me to get up so she could sit down, and she said ‘that’s okay, I’m fine here’" HELLO Children!? You are forgetting where your place in society is… but let me remind you. It’s one and only ONE notch above the family pets, and possibly two above the cows grazing in the pasture, but you are NOWHERE NEAR the level of those who work for a living to put the roof over your heads and the Abercrombie clothes on your backs) it was totally worth it.

And Santa was good to us all (especially Matt who got the Lotus below.)

There’s more Christmas vacation pictures here. Lucky for you, these still photos don’t have sound, otherwise you might go deaf from all the screaming and fighting and playing and loudness, and I’m sure you would wonder how Jody and I make it through each day.

We hope your holiday season is filled with love and nice manners!

Happy Birthday to my very adorable cousin Bryan (lay off girls, he’s married!)

Letter to Santa

Santa2

"Dear Santa,

I am a good girl. I’m really nice so I want you to get my family a charm bracelet. It’s for Bree and Bailey and Lassa and Jody and Cody and Janey.

I promise I will give you a kiss when you go bye-bye. And if you give my mom a charm bracelet, I will give you a kiss AND a hug.

I love you,
Janey Valente"
